6 hours and counting

I wasn't really nervous until I woke up at 6:30 am this morning and still had a tightness in my chest that started last night. I am pretty sure it was anxiety because it went I way as soon as I distracted myself by acting busy. I tried to fall asleep but I couldn't relax. I think it finally hit me that I was leaving the country, for a month, by MYSELF! I understand now why people leave for big trips in the morning - this way there are less hours between waking up and taking off to stress out. So after loosing the fight with my body, I got out of bed at 8:30 (maybe my body is ready to be on Guatemala time). After settling my bills and reading my "before you leave" checklists, Christine and I shared our last, healthy, McDonald's breakfast for the last time in a month (tear). I still had 12 hours till I needed to be at the airport, but since I had yet to pack, I decided I should probably start and then I could relax. Packing took about 2 hours and I was pretty proud of myself - I fit everything I need (or think I will need) for a month in one backpack! Sure half the backpack is filled with my toiletries but I was talked out of taking heels so I figured I did ok. Heather probably still thinks I over-packed, but I am sure my dad would be proud and say I broke even or maybe even made money on this shipment. With more than a half a day left and nothing left to do, I went to my new favorite nail place, Fairy's Nails, and got a pedicure. It helped me relax a little bit and get out most of my nervous energy. After I browsed REI for final amenities, I came back to my apartment and was stir crazy so I called my dad and made him pick me up early so I could get my final fill of cable TV and TiVo. 6 more hours to go!
Next email will be from Guatemala!

Hi Kiyomi, I will refrain from leaving scandalous comments on here for today, just wanted to say I got your sad goodbye message (were you trying to sound sad?), and that I hope you have a wonderful time! Hopefully by now you have found a way to exchange money and have realized leaving the heels behind was a good choice. We miss you!!! Have fun!

msg - (what does it stand for - beside the stuff that's in japanese food that gives most people a headack). don't forget to call me for a ride upon your return to "lala land" - i'm only minutes away. japan is way to formal and polite for this "abj" - gives me a headack - like way too strached underwear. love your grandma - kathy does the same thing - get all excite when her cell phone rings.

deb - thought of you yesterday when i heard on "npr" that "jpl" had their annual "open house" did you attend? why don't you visit while you are here in lala land and kiyomi-girl is being latin for a few weeks.

chan chan - oh yes this is your page - sorry - got into mary and deb's comments. just received your email that you arrived safely - actually i had d/checked ua website to see if the flight arrived on time - 1/2 hour early. good job on packing surely made money on that shipment - let's see if you forgot anything - 4weeks is a record for you!!! love you miss you - tdtdgu
